Sports Massage is a more recent development within the world of massage, which was borne out of the desire to use massage techniques to enhance the performance of top athletes in numerous sporting disciplines.
Remedial Massage and Sports Massage use very similar techniques – but the word “remedial” is used because some people find the word “sports” puts them off accessing treatment as they wrongly believe it is only for true sports people.
Kinesiology tape was originally developed to help top athletes, and it is now commonly used by those training and competing, and by those who do not consider themselves sporting but who suffer certain types of injury.

I am a fully qualified and insured sports and remedial massage therapist, working out of Queen Street Consulting Rooms in Ulverston, Cumbria.
I am a Member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists - which shows that I not only have the qualifications and insurance to practice, but am committed to ongoing continuous professional development to improve my skills, and to the use of the FHT’s rigorous Code of Conduct.
I work two evenings a week at present, helping a range of clients to move away from pain, discomfort and restricted movement. Some of my clients have ongoing medical conditions, or are recovering from non-sporting injuries such as a car crash, and use Remedial Massage to ease the pain and movement restrictions caused by their symptoms. Some are physically active, and need Sports Massage to ensure the demands of their activity do not lead to injury, and when there is injury, to help them recover.
It is my true privilege to be able to help people become more mobile, more free of pain, more well.
What clients say
Neil is a true professional, he helped me when I was training for a half marathon. Thanks to some maintenance sports massage with Neil I found it much easier to train as I had much less stiffness. Huge thanks Neil.
As a parent this was incredibly emotional, as for the first time in four years Ted's shoulders appeared level again and for Ted the pain and tension was finally beginning to ease. I would thoroughly recommend Neil Smith. Neil's therapy has made the most significant difference to our son's recovery.
